The Institute For Figuring is an organization dedicated to the poetic and aesthetic dimensions of science, Mathematics and the technical arts. The Institute is amazing and has many projects underway that can be integrated into curriculum. Many of the projects promote sustainability, as well as infusing or arts and crafts into Science and Math. Some of the most brilliant minds of our time, have been analytically minded but have had the ability to think outside the box and engage their creative right brains.

Tullia Dymarz is one Mathematican that comes to mind when thinking about merging the creative with the analytical. Currently a Professor of Mathematics in Paris, not only is she a leading female in a very male dominant field, but she pays about a dozen instruments, is an amazing writer, and poet and oozes creativity when she enters the room. Individuals such as herself are living testaments for need need of creative and holistic approaches into Math Education in Canada and beyond.

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project is one of the highlights of this institute. The mandate is to bring art, sustainability, ecology and women's craft together to promote awareness. Thousands have joined in crocheting these amazing replicas of reefs, and an exhibition was put together at the Any Warhol Gallery.
